Thank you for volunteering. You are very much appreciated since we can only continue to rescue if we get foster volunteers because we have no physical shelter. Likewise volunteers that want to help in other areas such as fund-raising, transporting to vets, newsletter...are equally important.
Thank you also for taking the time to complete the application. I would appreciate it if you answer every question. Please give as much detail as possible, providing phone numbers and appropriate contact persons where requested.
You must be 18 years of age or older to foster or foster jointly with a parent. If you live at home you must have your parents permission to foster. You must be 16 years or older to volunteer in other areas, if under 18 need parents permission.
It is the job of the foster to help us get the kitties ready for adoption and also to shower them with love and attention while keeping them safely indoors. We rescue from the streets and shelters so often our rescues are sick or under fed or shy. These are not major illnesses but all fosters must start out in an isolated room away form other pets. This is to protect your own pets while giving the new kitty a chance to adjust to the new surroundings.
All cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, tested for FELV/FIV, dewormed and flea free before they can be adopted. This is accomplished by the foster with the support of our group. As a foster you do not pay for this medical, SCR covers the vet expenses.
We have a Volunteer/Foster Coordinator and additional individuals to support you in your fostering/volunteering efforts so you are not alone. It's an extremely satisfying experience to know that you have saved the lives of kitties. As a foster you also have direct input into the permanent placement of the foster kitties which is also very rewarding.
