All applicants must:

  • Be serving in a county, state, or city government position through August 2023. This includes those serving in elected, appointed, and professional/civil service.
  • Be able to participate in the two-day D.C. Summit to be scheduled in August 2022, in its entirety. If health conditions permit, the Summit may be held in person; otherwise, it will be virtual, as it was in 2020 and 2021.
  • Be able to participate in all five virtual, monthly 90-minute seminars (at 12:00 PM ET on September 15, October 20, November 17, December 15, and January 19). We will also host an optional welcome webinar on June 23, 2022, at 12:00 PM ET.

Preference for applicants meeting the following criteria:

  • Applicants from small-town and rural communities.
  • Applicants with at least some experience engaging with or conducting outreach to vulnerable and/or bigotry-impacted communities.
  • Applicants with institutional support from employing agency toward participation in the Council.

Cost of Participation

If the Summer 2022 D.C. Summit is conducted in-person, participants are expected to cover their travel and lodging expenses for the two-day Summit, though travel grants may be available for those who do not have employer support for the travel. All other expenses including exclusive demographic briefings, virtual and in-person program curriculum, and most meals during the D.C. Summit, are covered by the program.
