What are the qualities of a successful application?
Applications that clearly demonstrate a need for funding whose use will have a significant impact on preventing fire loss are acceptable. It is also important to provide plenty of detail and documentation in your application to support your request.

In order to review your grant, supporting information for the items you have requested must be included with your application (e.g., vendor invoice, names of retail store(s) where price was obtained, training documentation). This grant can not be used as reimbursement, items should not be purchased until after you have been notified of an award. Organizations receiving funding must be not-for-profit. Therefore, any tax included within your quote will not be funded unless a specific reason and documentation is provided to justify funding the tax.

How much should I apply for?
Although there is no limit on how much funding you can apply for, this grant program is designed to provide seed money to help support your fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts. The average grant award is $2,500. A list of past grant recipients can be found below.

Do I need to provide matching funds?
Matching funds are not required, but sometimes only partial funding of a request will be awarded. Applicants may need to contribute additional funds to supplement their award. You may only be able to purchase some of the items or may need to look for a less expensive model of the product you applied for.

How are decisions made about my grant?
All grant applications are reviewed by a committee consisting of a diverse group of FM Global property loss prevention experts and members of the public fire service community—to ensure funding is awarded where it will make the most difference.

What is the deadline for submitting my application?
Grant applications are reviewed four times per year. Deadlines for receipt of applications are March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31. Decisions on awards are made approximately 3-4 months after the deadline.

When can I reapply for funding?
Previous grant recipients may reapply for funding three years from the date of their initial award letter. For applications that did not result in a grant award, applicants may reapply for funding one year from the date of their notification letter. Only one application may be submitted and considered at a time.
