Hawaiian Gardens Ordinance 2022-604 prohibits the parking of oversized vehicles on City streets. This ordinance allows for temporary permits for short-term parking needs.
Conditions and Restrictions
1. Oversized vehicle parking permits shall only be issued to Hawaiian Gardens residents. Residents may obtain permits on behalf of out-of-town guests traveling with an oversized vehicle.
2. Oversized vehicles with a valid permit must be parked within 100 feet of the permit holder’s residential address. Permits shall be issued for a maximum of 72 consecutive hours for loading and unloading.
3. Over the course of a calendar year, a household may obtain a maximum of 12 Oversized Vehicle parking permits. No vehicle may receive more than 12 Oversized Vehicle parking permits in a calendar year.
4. The Oversized Vehicle must have current registration and insurance.
5. The permit is valid only for the vehicle to which it is issued and cannot be transferred to any other vehicle.
6. The physical permit must be displayed on the driver’s side front windshield of the recreational vehicle or the tow vehicle of recreational trailer.
7. If the permit is for a recreational trailer, the trailer must remain attached to the tow vehicle at all times.
8. No utilities (e.g., electrical, water, gas, etc.) may be attached to an Oversized Vehicle at any time.
9. Oversized Vehicles must comply with street sweeping and all other parking regulations.
10. Upon expiration of an Oversized Vehicle parking permit, the vehicle must vacate the public right-of-way and may not park on any public street in the City for at least 72 hours.
11. Commercial vehicles are not eligible for this permit.
12. Completing an application does not guarantee the issuance of a permit and the City reserves the right to deny or revoke a permit.
Applications must be completed by a Hawaiian Gardens resident. Each application will be reviewed and decided upon in a timely manner. Upon approval, the Oversized Vehicle Temporary Parking Permit must be picked up in person, with an appointment, at the Public Safety Center. Proof of identification and Hawaiian Gardens residency is required (driver’s license, utility bill, government ID).
