YOUTH PROFESSION OF FAITH 2019
(for 6th-12th graders)
WHAT IS Profession of Faith?
Making your profession of faith at Christ Memorial Church (CMC) means these two things:
- letting other Christians know that you have made a commitment to be a life-long follower of Jesus.
- you are choosing to become a full member of Christ Memorial Church.
Making your profession of faith is a big step. Take some time to read through this information, talk to your parent(s), and pray!
Part 1: Mentorship
Students seeking to profess their faith will be paired with an adult mentor for six to eight sessions in January, February, and March. Using their new Bible, a journal, and also a book entitled “I Believe—Getting Ready to Profess My Faith,” they will discuss:
- the student’s faith journey
- what it means to be a Christian
- how to develop spiritual habits such as S.O.A.P.
They will also work with their mentor to create a presentation in which to share their faith story with CMC elders.
Part 2: Workshop
In late February, students will be invited to attend a workshop held in the youth center. There the students and mentors will learn more about the meaning of baptism and communion.
Part 3: Meeting with Elders
Students and their mentors will prepare together for this time of sharing in groups with CMC elders. Examples of ways to share their faith are a PowerPoint presentation, a poster or collage, or an oral testimony. These will be on display for viewing by families and friends on Profession of Faith Sunday, May 5.
Part 4: Public Profession of Faith
Students will officially make their faith public at both Sunday morning services (9 & 10:30) on May 5. They and their mentors will stand alongside the other students to profess their faith. They will also be invited to partake in communion.
